  • PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER

"Yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness." Romans 6:13-22

I cannot save and sanctify myself; I cannot atone for sin; I cannot redeem the world; I can not make right what is wrong, pure what is impure, holy what is unholy. That is all the sovereign work of God. Have I faith in what Jesus Christ has done? He has made a perfect Atonement, am I in the habit of constantly realizing it? The great need is not to do things, but to believe things. The Redemption of Christ is not an experience, it is the great act of God which He has performed through Christ, and I have to build my faith upon it. If I construct my faith on my experience, I produce that most unscriptural type, an isolated life, my eyes fixed on my own whiteness. Beware of the piety that has no pre-supposition in the Atonement of the Lord. It is of no use for anything but a sequestered life; it is useless to God and a nuisance to man. Measure every type of experience by our Lord Himself. We cannot do anything pleasing to God unless we deliberately build on the pre-supposition of the Atonement.

The Atonement of Jesus has to work out in practical, unobtrusive ways in my life. Every time I obey, absolute Deity is on my side, so that the grace of God and natural obedience coincide. Obedience means that I have banked everything on the Atonement, and my obedience is met immediately by the delight of the supernatural grace of God.

Beware of the piety that denies the natural life, it is a fraud. Continually bring yourself to the bar of the Atonement - where is the discernment of the Atonement in this thing, and in that?

  • why do we struggle with doing right or God's will?  is it because we don't know what we really want in life?  i wonder how much easier it would be if we didn't think so hard about it.  what do you do when you have 2 options in life?  i believe God makes the choice easier to bare but not always that easy to take.  like waiting for a job that you've always dreamed of, or wanting that person to call you back, or even deciding where to eat tonight.  decisions decisions decisions.  there is a bold part in all of us.  there is something inside of you and me that says, "Do this and you will reap happiness."  Guidance is nice.  We all have different motives for things.  But the one thing that will stick is that which is outside our own biases.  You see you can't have the good choices without making some choice to not do something else.  We all make sacrifices for what we believe, want and desire... its how far we go that makes us all different.

what are you doing right now that is not for yourself?  for me its as simple as doing the dishes so my wife doesn't have to.  we all do things we don't want to do, why not to something good for someone else or for something else today.

take a deep breath.  it could be your last.

  • consistency

i am finding that the hardest thing in this world is being consistent.  isn't that what we really want?  we want people and things in our life to be consistent and not to fail us.  even Jesus said that he would rather us be consistantly hot or cold but not lukewarm... which a mix of hot and cold.  i struggle to be consistent in a lot of areas of my life.  my job performance, my marriage, my friendships, my Walk.  living a life of consistency isn't easy.  especially when the standard is the Forever Constant Jesus Christ.  and yet when all around us people and things are failing to be dependable, we have one thing, one person that will never change and will always be there... Jesus.

this is my goal this year.  a bit late for new years resolutions i know but does it really matter when?  maybe for at least the summer... baby steps.  be consistent.  don't worry about how good or bad something is, but be consistent with it...

make the decision.  stick to it.  no regrets.
